It was another hot and heavy session of Gospel Brunch on Sunday.  The once a month service is causing quit a stir at the World Famous Kenton Club on North Portland.  We arrived early and stayed late.  Bailey’s and Coffee, Smoking Gospel Music and Beautiful People touched our lives for a couple of hours.  Ya gots to check it out.

When it comes to studio photography, having a good, clean, solid background is very important.  Dirty backdrops make for extra hours in post production and colored backgrounds can be problematic with bounced light.  We recommend having a good solid white or solid black background as your base and build your scenes from there.

Our studio is a year old and desperately needed a paint job.  We took on the task and made a run by Sherwin-Williams for our paint.  Letting them know what we were up to, they recommended their FLAT BLACK, B30B400, PM400 Latex.  It is their darkest black and just what we were looking for.  At about $20 per gallon we took 3 to cover walls in 2 studios.  In the first studio, we were covering our old black and gray wall.  In the second, we were covering a gold wall.  2 coates was all it took and the dry results are fantastic.

We finally made it to Sunday Gospel Brunch.  OMFG.  We will return.  You should check it out.  Part of this video is perhaps NSFW… depends upon where you work I suppose.  Turn it up or turn it down accordingly.  Enjoy.

Thanksgiving rolled around this year and our plans included a trip to Eastern Oregon for a visit with Laura’s family.  We decided to take on dessert and quickly turned our task into a friendly little competition.  The Ultimate Pie Off, 2009.  With 8 guests, Laura and I decided to bake 2 pies each, and then have the guests taste all the pies and pick their favorite.  The line up went like this.

Laura’s Famous – Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie and Apple Pie

Hovering’s Famous – Kentucky Pie and Grasshopper Pie

The following video tells the tale of the tape and is my first attempt at making a movie with my Canon 5D Mark II DSLR and Apple’s iMovie.  I am pretty happy with the results and look forward incorporating the 5D Mark II’s video capabilities into our future photoshoots.

In the end, we each received 4 votes total but the Kentucky Pie won out overall, with 4 votes and big smiles all around (Peanut Butter Chocolate got 3 votes, Apple got 1 vote, and Grasshopper got 0 votes).  I was declared the Ultimate Pie Off Champion, Round I, through a generous concession and rule reading by Laura.

There is no loser with a Pie Off so we will be doing this again.  Invite us to dinner and you may just get to be a judge yourself.

Yum!
