I just returned from MacForce with a nearly new laptop.  I love Apple.

10 days ago our MacBook Pro began making bad noises.  I mean churning, grinding, winding noises.  Nothing you want to hear coming from an essential machine we use to run our business.  Googling the symptoms gave us “hard drive” or “one of the two fans” as possible culprits.  We bought AppleCare with this machine 2 1/2 years ago and dropped her off at our local MacForce, hoping for life saving actions to salvage whatever possible.  Well, Apple did better than that.  The machine just returned from the shop with a heady list of replacements, all at no extra cost to us.  $0.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.

AppleCare..  worth its weight in gold today.  Seriously.

The Apple Repair Depot sent our machine back with the following parts being replaced:

  • Logic Board
  • Thermal Module
  • Optical Drive (SuperDrive)
  • 2 Flex Cables
  • Right Fan Assembly
  • Left Fan Assembly
  • Airport Extreme Card
  • Input/Output Board

With 6 months left on our AppleCare, we basically have a new machine.  Thanks Apple.  We will continue to be excellent customers.

MacBook Pro.  Have I told you lately that I love you?

Junk to Funk.  Recycled Fashion.  Portland, OR. Laura and I (through Domestic Bliss Photography) donated a studio photo session as a prize for this excellent event and we are really looking forward to getting the winning designer into our studio.  ”Junk to Funk is a collective of art, education, environment, business and policy innovators who inspire individual towards responsible consumerism, creative re-use and conscientious disposal by providing unique fashion based entertainment and educational opportunities.”  The event was hosted by Mayor Sam Adams and The Mercury’s Marjorie Skinner.  We obtained media passes through our good friend Mel and showed up to take a few shots on the runway and check out some local fashion innovators.  The event was a huge success from my view.  The fashion was pretty mind blowing and the house band (Junquestra) rocked.  Both of these items overshadowed the scripted messaging and MC’ing which only made me want to drink Whiskey.  The all ages audience section as well as separate bar section were both packed and there were ample opportunities to educate yourself or purchase some cool recycled products and art.

Technically, I chose to shoot without flash, using a high ISO (4000) on my Canon 5D Mark II to see how it would perform.  I also pulled out my 70-200mm f2.8 L IS lens to play with.  Post production was necessary using Adobe Lightroom 2.0 to correct white balance, crop and reduce the little bit of noise I did get.  Overall, I am really happy with my gear.  It rocks actually.

You have to get up early to catch perfect light.  Today was one of those days.  Early rise, hike with gear, get the shot.  Sunrise at Union Station in Portland.

When asked what I love about Portland, my answer is simple.  It’s The People.  Portland has attracted individuals from across the globe.  On the streets and in the restaurants, you will find a melting pot of global style.  From business suits to artist chic, from couture to diy fashion. There is no one look.  There is no consistent style by occupation. There are only individuals.  For me, what I love so much about Portland are the people.  The people are what make Portland special. The people are Portland.  I choose to photograph the people of Portland.  This is my work.  This is my passion.  Let me photograph you.
